Real Betis eyeing Hammers attacker

Share

La Liga outfit Real Betis are reportedly looking to sign West Ham striker Lucas Perez.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, which claims Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini is close to approving the deal as he looks to sign another attacking player.

The 30-year-old Perez joined West Ham during the summer transfer window from Arsenal for a reported fee of £4 million.

Struggling for form

Since arriving at the London Stadium, the Spaniard has struggled to find the back of the net on a regular basis and has only managed two Premier League goals from ten appearances.

He was an unused substitute for the East Londoners on Saturday during their FA Cup win against Birmingham City.

Move may make sense for Hammers

It would make perfect sense at this point for West Ham to cash in on Perez and bring in another attacker. The Spaniard has failed to show that he can provide value for money.

Pellegrini’s side are aiming for nothing less than a top-half finish this season, and their ambition is demonstrable through their signing of Samir Nasri from free agency. Nasri has been out of action for the past 18 months due to a doping ban and he joins on a deal until the end of the season – although it can be renewed if he manages to impress.

Signing the controversial Frenchman is a risk due to his undoubted lack of match fitness. However, it is important to remember that Pellegrini and Nasri previously worked very well together at Manchester City.

The East London outfit could provide the 31-year-old Nasri with the perfect opportunity to reignite his career. He will not be the same player that he was during his heyday with City and Arsenal but he could still provide plenty of value to Pellegrini’s side.
