Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has emerged as a shock target for Premier League outfit Everton, should they decide to offload current boss Marco Silva before the end of the season.
Silva has come under scrutiny in recent weeks as Everton have lost six of their last Premier League games, with daunting fixtures against the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea still to come before the end of the season.
The results have left Everton ninth in the table and speculation is now mounting over Silva’s position, so much so that the Toffees hierarchy are already discussing potential replacements.
One of the potential candidates is none other than Leeds United boss Bielsa, with the Argentine enjoying a fine season in Yorkshire thus far, having steered them to second in the Championship.
It remains to be seen whether the 63-year-old would be interested in a move to Merseyside, having only been at United since the start of the season.
Toffees owner Farhad Moshiri might fancy his chances however, given he often boasts a sizeable warchest of funds for transfer windows. Bielsa is known to enjoy tightly-knit squads during his 28-year managerial career but the idea of redesigning a Blues squad ridden with many flaws may appeal should Leeds’ promotion bid derail.
Bielsa has overseen 17 wins at Elland Road thus far this season, although the Whites’ form has faltered since the turn of the New Year, winning just twice in six Championship games.
Whilst promotion to the Premier League would likely to end the speculation around Bielsa’s future, it wouldn’t be inconceivable to imagine the Argentine jumping ship at the end of the season should Leeds fail to return to the English top flight.
