Oscar De La Hoya begins the hype for Canelo vs Jacobs fight

Oscar De La Hoya believes that the upcoming fight between Canelo Alvarez (50-1-2 34 KO’s) and Daniel ”Miracle Man” Jacobs (35-2, 29 KO’s) will be the standout boxing match of the year.

A twelve round unification fight between the two boxers is due to take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday 4 May. The fighters recently completed the final leg of their three-city press tour with an appearance at the Microsoft Theater at Los Angeles Live.

A clash of the titans

The match promises to be one which is intense though WBC, WBA Lineal Middleweight Champion Canelo will be the favourite to beat Jacobs, who is currently the IBF Middleweight world champion. The 32-year-old Jacobs has been defeated twice in his career, his last loss coming against Gennady Golovkin in early 2017. His other loss came in 2010, via K.O against Russian Dmitry Pirog.

Canelo has, quite remarkably, drawn two fights in his career against Gennady Golovkin and Jorge Juarez. His only defeat thus far came against Floyd Mayweather back in 2011. The Mexican has indicated that he could end up having three fights this year unlike recent years where he only had two in a year.

The press conference tour had previously made stops in New York City as well as Mexico during the past week. Golden Boy promotions CEO De La Hoya, who manages Canelo, believes that the fight will end up being the fight of the year.

De Le Hoya also believes that Canelo will win the bout.

“This fight is important because it will feature two world champions who will unify their titles to demonstrate who is the best at 160 pounds. This battle is also significant because it features two of the most resilient fighters in the history of the sport,” he said.
