Spurs fans call for ‘Gazza’ as Lloris replacement

Share

Tottenham Hotspur supporters have called upon substitute goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga to step up to the mark after Hugo Lloris’s continuous blunders have left the Frenchman’s future in doubt.

Lloris once again came under heavy criticism from Spurs supporters last night after the 2-1 defeat to Liverpool allowed the gap between third and sixth to go down to just one point. Many feel that the 32-year old was at fault with the Reds’ second goal after he failed to clear the ball away from his lines as Mohammed Salah tapped into the back of the net.

He has also received criticism following Spurs’ Champions League tie with PSV after he clattered Hirving Lozano during the 2-2 draw at Philips Stadion in October.

Since joining the club in 2012, the Frenchman has been a key figure in North London and was once regarded as one of the best ‘keepers in the league by many. But, the World Cup winner could now make way for Spurs’ 27-year old backup.

Gazzaniga followed gaffer Mauricio Pochettino to Spurs after his departure from Southampton just before the 2017/18 Premier League campaign. From the three games he has played in the famous white colours of North London, supporters have been quick to praise the Argentinian and now believe he is ready for a start.

The rumour mill has already begun for Lloris, with the likes of Burnley ‘keeper Nick Pope and Cologne’s Timo Horn looking like potential candidates to take the number one shirt from Lloris. But with Gazzaniga looking to go well, he could well become Tottenham’s new man between the sticks.

Meanwhile, the Frenchman could prefer a favourable return back to France with giants PSG requiring a new goalkeeper with legend Gianluigi Buffon reaching his 42nd birthday next season.
