Are Chelsea’s loan stars key to their future success?

Share

Chelsea have always be known for their loan attitude towards younger players, and their treatment towards the controversial subject could have everyone talking ahead of next season. The Blues currently have 41 players out on loan, where many of these are playing at similar levels compared to the Premier League.

However, with the transfer ban coming into Stamford Bridge this summer, it could be time for the hierarchy to look towards the upcoming stars within the club.

A mass majority of the 41 have stayed within England and are currently making their trade across the football pyramid. Others are shipped off to sister clubs, including the likes of Vitesse Arnhem in the Netherlands. The Championship seems to be the league for entertainment this campaign as many of Chelsea players star within England’s second division.

Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, Todd Kane, Tomas Kalas, Fikayo Tomori and Lewis Baker are just a couple of these players and look to have a high likelihood of being involved within Maurizio Sarri’s side next season.

The debate has already started with the likes of Alvaro Morata and Oliver Giroud set to leave Stamford Bridge, and this could leave the gap for Abraham to step up to the mark after scoring 25 goals for Aston Villa this season. Michy Batshuayi could also be a good backup option after making a loan move to Crystal Palace last June.

With Gary Cahill and David Luiz turning 34 and 33 respectively, Tomori and Kalas could well be the perfect match for a hopeful younger backline, they could already be added along with Antonio Rudiger, Ethan Ampadu and Andreas Christensen. With 24 players currently on their first team books, squad depth could be key to Chelsea’s success next campaign with a huge influx of youth talent also making their trade out on loan.

Ethan Ampadu, Danilo Pantic, Ola Aina, Kenneth Omeruo, Jake Clarke-Salter, Dujon Sterling and Trevor Chalobah could all be ideal backup within the squad as could £60m man Christian Pulisic, who may end up to be Eden Hazard’s replacement come the Summer.
