The art of choosing a proven stud during the NFL draft continues to be the hardest trait to find when NFL owners hire their General Managers (GM).
While every fan and draft expert can put a grade before the draft on a player the real test is putting a grade on a player who lives up to the stock while rewarding the team drafted by them.
A great example is the Baltimore Ravens and former General Manager Ozzie Newsome, who drafted two Hall of Famers in their first draft (Jonathan Ogden and Ray Lewis) or the New England Patriots, who drafted Tom Brady in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft.
As we begin to look at the 2019 NFL draft, here’s a few names that could end up aiding their respective GM’s push to land the title of top GM of the season.
Josh Jacobs, Running Back
The Oakland Raiders drafted the former Alabama Crimson Tide running back with the 24th pick in the first round.
Jacobs, who by many was ranked the top running back in the draft and a potential top 10 back, dropped until the late first round and was the only running back drafted during the first round.
Now Jacobs will join a Raiders team on the mend, that has some question marks across the field. If Jacobs can live up to the pre-draft hype this could be a steal of the first round.
D.K. Metcalf, Wide Receiver
Metalf saw his name drafted to the Seattle Seahawks with the last pick of the second round after many experts had him near the top 15 picks of the first round.
Metcalf’s ability is explosive and his size and stature is something most teams love for his position. Now Metcalf will give the Seattle Seahawks and Russell Wilson a big time passing threat.
Jaylon Ferguson, Defensive End & Justice Hill, Running Back
The first year draft for Baltimore Ravens Eric Decosta featured a few studs, including both Ferguson and Hill. Ferguson who broke former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs college record of sacks fell to the second round while Hill a rumored 2nd round pick dropped to the fourth round.
If these two guys live up to their potential Decosta could join the ranks of Newsome as a top GM.
