Enigmatic striker Marko Arnautovic put an end to speculation around his future today by announcing the decision to remain at West Ham rather than push for a mega-money move to China.
The 29-year-old sent a heartfelt message to West Ham fans via Instagram assuring them that he is fully committed to help them climb the Premier League table in the second half of the season.
The news comes after much speculation around the Austrian’s future, having been subject to big-money bids from China throughout the January transfer window.
West Ham rejected all approaches though and at one point it appeared that the transfer saga might reach boiling point, with Arnautovic’s brother – who is also the player’s agent – clamouring for the club to sanction a move.
The striker had also gone so far as to clap all ends of the stadium when substituted in West Ham’s 1-0 victory over Arsenal earlier this month, with many believing it to be a goodbye.
That all appears to be in the past now though, with Arnautovic seemingly ready to return to the field and increase his Premier League goal tally, which currently stands at seven.
The Hammers meanwhile remain in discussions with Celta Vigo to trigger the release clause of striker Maxi Gomez. The 22-year-old has a release clause of £43.3million and has nine league goals so far this season.
