Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera is rumoured to have demanded a huge pay rise before the end of his expiring contract in June 2019
That’s according to a report in The Mirror, which claims the Spaniard has requested a new contract of £200,000 per week at Old Trafford, which will be a £70,000 increase on his current salary since joining the club in June 2014.
Herrera, 30 in August, is currently one of United’s six central midfielders and is usually found in the starting line-up alongside Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba in recent weeks. But, his age and wage demands could lead to his downfall with the likes of a younger Andreas Peirera, Fred and Scott McTominay all looking to replace his boots.
The Spain international signed for the Red Devils from Athletic Bilbao for a cost in the region of £40m. He has played over 130 games for the club, scoring two goals, where a Community Shield, FA Cup, EFL Cup and Europa League have all been added to his impressive trophy cabinet. Along with that, he was formerly the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year during the 2016/17 Premier League campaign.
Herrera is yet to receive a contract offer so far this season, with the likes of Anthony Martial, Ashley Young, Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling all accepting extensions over the last couple of months.
Arsenal have previously expressed their interest in Herrera over the last 12 months and could push for a deal if contract terms are not yet determined with the likes of Paris Saint Germain also interested if they lose Adrien Rabiot over the summer.
Concerns are also growing for fellow Spaniard’s Juan Mata and David De Gea, who are yet to agree a deal with the club as continental rivals come looming.
