Former City striker on course to be a Hammer?

Share

Edin Dzeko is rumoured to be close to joining West Ham United in the upcoming summer transfer window, as his Roma contract expires at the end of the following season and he is yet to be offered a new deal.

The 33-year-old has been a standout performer since moving to the Italian giants, scoring an impressive 86 goals in 171 appearances for the club, alongside dozens of memorable performances.

Dzeko to reunite with Pellegrini

Whilst it may look an odd move for a striker who is still considered to be one of the best in Europe, the move presents the Bosnian with the chance to reunite with his former manager Manuel Pellegrini. Dzeko managed to score 32 goals in 80 appearances under the Chilean, and was part of the squad which heroically won the title on the last day of the season, thanks to that Sergio Aguero goal. It’s often forgotten that Dzeko scored the goal just before which lit the fuse for one of the most famous days in the history of football.

The move would also give Dzeko another chance to prove himself in the English game, as he was often criticised for lackluster and lazy performances in the Premier League, yet his goal scoring record was never in doubt. The way West Ham play would suit Dzeko’s style, with frequent balls being played into the box allowing him to utilise his aerial ability. He could also form a strong partnership with Marko Arnautovic, following his decision to stay at the club for the foreseeable future.

Carroll on the move

West Ham have been goal shy for the majority of this campaign, with the likes of Javier Hernandez failing to deliver when needed. However, the potential signing of Dzeko would spell the end of Andy Carroll’s time at the club. The Englishman has shown glimpses of brilliance, including a truly wonderful overhead kick against Crystal Palace.

However, as has so often been the case for the 30-year-old, his time at the club has been plagued with injuries. Now looking for a fresh start, it’s looking likely that Carroll may follow Wayne Rooney with a stint in the MLS to try and revive his career.

The signing of Dzeko could be a very astute one for West Ham, who will be looking for a push on the European spots, and the pedigree and experience that the Bosnian brings would be pivotal to any push.
