Revealed: What Tottenham want for midfield dynamo

Share

Tottenham are reportedly willing to sell Christian Eriksen this summer – on the condition that they receive £130 million.

Eriksen is widely regarded as being one of the world’s best midfielders and has been strongly linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid. The Dane’s current contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is due to expire next summer and he has yet to sign a new deal with the club. According to a report published by The Daily Mail, Spurs would be willing to part ways with Eriksen if the price was right.

This essentially means that they will have to sell him this summer if they want to earn maximum profit on a sale or they could risk losing him for a bargain fee next January. The 27-year-old Eriksen has been with the North London club since 2013 when he arrived from Ajax Amsterdam. He has been a key player for Mauricio Pochettino’s club over the years and has made 203 Premier League appearances for his side, registering 48 goals. The one thing which has eluded Eriksen, however, is a major trophy.

He is now at the peak of his career so it is easy to see why he may be tempted to leave Spurs. It would be hard to even fault him if he chooses to do so. It will indeed be a big blow for Tottenham if they lose Eriksen; he is, after all, one of the best creative midfielders in the world. However, life always moves on. If the Lilywhites do sell him, they will probably be able to sign a new talented replacement.

Pochettino also has a good reputation in terms of how he deals with young talent. Spurs fans can be confident that their manager will be able to identify a good replacement for any star who leaves the club who will be able to perform aptly. There have actually been relatively few Pochettino signings who have been complete flops.
