Wilson arrives as Mr Irrelevant for the Cardinals

The hype is built around the first pick of the NFL draft, but do you know who Mr. Irrelevant is? While Kyler Murray will be long remembered as the first pick of the 2019 NFL draft, will you remember who Caleb Wilson is?

Wilson was the last pick taken with the 254^th overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals out of UCLA. Wilson, who is a tight end, will join the long list of former NFL players who were selected with the last pick.

Wilson comes with low expectations

While the expectations are very low for him, after being passed over 253 before being selected number 254^th. Despite being the last pick, we have seen some solid late draft picks produce, including Ryan Succop, who was the last pick drafted during the 2009 NFL draft. Other players who were drafted near the end of the draft and put together solid careers include Marques Colston, T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Jeremiah Ratliff.

Now the big test will begin as he looks to make the Cardinals roster and become a key weapon for Murray in the Cardinals passing attack. Wilson has very solid size at 6’4’’ and has some speed to go with it to play the tight end position. While he lacks the blocking that some teams look for at tight end, he has shown his ability to make a big play.

Last season, Wilson pulled in 60 catches for 965 yards to go along with four touchdowns. Along with the solid success, Wilson averaged just over 16 yards per catch. If Wilson can develop in the Cardinals passing attack, the Cardinals could have a chance to put together a combination of the first and last pick on the field at the same time.

Can Mr. Irrelevant 2019 brake the long trend of struggles we have seen from the last pick of the NFL Draft? Only time will tell.
