After joining Arsenal during the January transfer window on an initial loan deal, much was expected from Spanish midfielder Denis Suarez, but he is yet to start a game for the Gunners and could find himself without a team in the summer. After frustrating injuries and lack of games in Spain beforehand, what will be next for the 25-year-old?
According to reports, Suarez is set to have a heavy conversation with Arsenal officials about his future at the club as he has an optional deal to sign permanently for the North London outfit this summer.
A deal of around £20m could be enough to bring the Spaniard to the Emirates on a full-time basis, but will they even want to exercise that agreement?
Initially touted by many as being the missing link in Unai Emery’s side, an ongoing groin problem has troubled the attacking midfielder’s career for a number of years now and he would probably need to nurse the issue before rejoining a Premier League side. The former Manchester City man joined Barcelona in 2013, playing for their ‘B’ team. But, after a successful spell there, as well as Villarreal and the Catalan giants once again after a buy-back clause, Suarez looked overseas to show off his talent – but it hasn’t yet managed to shine through.
The meeting with Emery is planned to be about his workload in training with it set to be reduced for the remainder of the season. With that being said, the release clause looks set to be rejected by Arsenal which will leave the Spanish International without a club for the 2019/20 season.
A spell abroad to either Netherlands or Turkey could be favourable in Suarez’s eyes as could a move to a lower-end La Liga side. However, his future in the Premier League looks highly uncertain.
