Spanish giants Barcelona are reportedly considering a move for Arsenal star Alexandre Lacazette, should they fail to secure the signature of Antoine Griezmann.
With Luis Suarez now well into his 30s, the Blaugrana need to bring in a quality striker who can complement and support him up front. Lacazette was impressive in 2018/19 and was named as Arsenal’s player of the season. He managed to score 13 goals as well as assist ten.
It will be difficult for the Blaugrana to persuade Arsenal into selling the Frenchman. Lacazette is one of the Gunners’ most important players and his presence will be seen as key as they look to continue their progress under Unai Emery next season.
Even though Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was the club’s top scorer in the league with 22 goals, Lacazette was chosen as the club’s best player, which highlighted his importance to the Gunners’ cause.
That said, a move to the Camp Nou will be tempting for Lacazette. Such a transfer will assure him of deep runs in the major tournaments on offer and also virtually guarantee success at some point; something which is not certain at Arsenal as they are still a developing side, very much a work in progress.
Arsenal clearly need to make improvements within their side, especially defensively, if they want to improve next season. The club’s attack is actually very good and can help to propel them to a top-four finish. They are weak at the back, however, and this must be reinforced in the summer.
The Gunners should aim to release veteran Stephen Lichsteiner as well as Shkodran Mustafi. The German is error-prone and has never managed to find consistency at the Emirates. They should also aim to release Laurent Koscielny, who is barely adding value to the first team at the moment.
