The NFL is right around the corner once again, with 32 teams set to do battle with the hopes of winning the Lombardi Trophy. But before a champion can be crowned in the postseason, each team needs to navigate the regular season, where there are endless pitfalls and challenges to be faced if a team is not careful. These teams, though, look poised to avoid said pitfalls with successful seasons where they should exceed the win totals set for them by oddsmakers.
When the list of NFL season win totals was released for the 2019 season, the Indianapolis Colts were immediately one of the more interesting teams on the list because of how much they are anticipated to improve in 2019. And with a total set at 9.5 wins, the over has been one of the most understandably popular bets on the preseason NFL board.
A huge reason for that popularity is the presence of some inconsistent teams alongside them in their division. The AFC South has seen the Titans, Texans, and Jaguars all rise and fall in recent years, to the point where the Colts simply playing consistent football should be enough to get them to the top of the division. And with an offensive line that did a good job of protecting Andrew Luck last year, this team could be a legitimate title contender.
Sports betting as a whole is growing in the United States, with the home state of the Giants being no exception. New Jersey is, aside from Las Vegas, the hub of sports betting in the country now. And with sports betting NJ online and in person being so popular, it only makes sense that a lot of action comes in on the Giants during NFL season given how many fans they have in both New York and neighbouring New Jersey.
But those fans might want to consider the under for the Giants’ win total of six games this year. This is because the Giants haven’t done much to improve from last season. They traded away their best player in Odell Beckham Jr., are still using the turnover-prone Eli Manning at quarterback, and let their best defensive player in Landon Collins walk away. It is going to be a difficult year in New Jersey, even though fans will be allowed to wager on it legally.
Things were looking promising for Washington last season, with the team in contention for a division title before quarterback Alex Smith went down with a season-ending injury. Now Washington is tasked with figuring out their quarterback situation without him for this year, with rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins looking like the early front runner to take the starting job.
Haskins should have a successful professional career, but any rookie quarterback is going to go through some growing pains early in their career. And with Washington already suffering some injuries during their early voluntary activities, it could be another long season in Washington.
