Chelsea’s 6-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday was their second thrashing in two weeks, and has led to calls for manager Maurizio Sarri to be sacked.
The result, which follows a 4-0 reverse to Bournemouth several weeks ago, means that Maurizio Sarri’s side slip into sixth position in the standings. They are now on course to miss out on a top-four finish for the second consecutive season.
The Blues still have a chance of winning silverware this season as they are alive in the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League. However, if there is one thing that is certain, it is that winning major silverware that does necessarily mean that a manager is safe at Stamford Bridge.

We saw this last season as Antonio Conte was sacked despite leading the club to the FA Cup in his last game in charge – although they did end up a disappointing fifth in the league. The year before, Conte hed led the club to the Premier League title.
If the worst case scenario occurs and Sarri fails to lead the club to Champions League qualification or to a piece of silverware, it is likely that he too will be sacked. The man who could be in line to replace him is Chelsea club legend Frank Lampard, according to the Daily Mail.
Lampard has had an impressive start to life as a manager with Derby County in the Championship this season. He will be welcomed by Chelsea fans should he be appointed as their manager. One thing that could work against him, though, is the experience factor.
The former England international has been coaching for less than a year and is not yet a proven manager at the highest level. Chelsea must be cautious about approaching him for the position should it become available.
