Borrusia Dortmund midfielder Mario Gotze has revealed that he finds the English Premier League ‘very attractive’.
The 26-year-old is best remembered by many for having scored the winning goal for Germany in the 2014 World Cup Final against Argentina.
Since then, his career has stagnated amidst injury problems and he even missed out on a place in the 23-man German squad who were eliminated during the group stage of the 2018 World Cup. Gotze started his career with Dortmund but moved to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in 2013 after being heralded as one of the best up and coming talents in European football at the time.
During his time with Bayern, he showed glimpses of brilliance but struggled for consistency and he subsequently re-joined his boyhood club in 2016.
Dortmund are currently flying high in the Bundesliga and are five points clear off Bayern at the top of the standings. Gotze has however struggled for regular game-time this season and has only made 13 appearances in all competitions so far, scoring one goal.
Gotze could look to leave Lucien Favre’s side at the end of the season as he looks to kick-start his career. The past few years have not been too kind to the player but he still arguably has the best years of his career ahead of him. With compatriot Mesut Ozil currently struggling for Arsenal, Gotze could see a move to the Premier League as a chance to solidify his place in the German national team.
Some reports have linked Gotze with a move to Liverpool in England where he will be reunited with Jurgen Klopp, whom he previously worked with during his first stint with Dortmund. Gotze played some brilliant football during his time under Klopp so there is no doubt that a move to Anfield will likely be something that is appealing to him.
Gotze has admitted that the Premier League is attractive to him. As quoted by Goal, he said: “I can only judge from a Bundesliga perspective as I’ve only played in Germany so far,”
“So, in that sense, it’s difficult to make comparisons.
“As an outsider, I have to say that the Premier League is a very attractive league. In England, there are five, six, seven big clubs and you can never be sure who will win the title in the end. It’s very exciting.”
