Fulham striker Mitrovic not surprised by big club interest

Share

Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic has revealed that he would welcome interest from the so-called “big clubs”. Despite his side fighting to avoid relegation from the Premier League this season, the 24-year-old has been in great form, scoring ten goals from 24 appearances.

The Serbian international has also provided two assists for Claudio Ranieri’s side, and proved to be one of the few bright sparks in an otherwise struggling Cottagers outfit.

Fulham are currently in 19th position, above only basement club Huddersfield Town. The Terriers, as well as Fulham, look likely to be two out of the three teams that will be relegated this season. The Serbian international joined the Cottagers from Newcastle United permanently last summer and his contract with the club is set to run until 2023, as reported by Transfermarkt.

Many clubs will come circling for Mitrovic’s services at the end of the season – and such interest will not come as a surprise to the player himself.

“Of course, if you play good, you will always have big teams who are interested in you and we will see,” he told Sky Sports.

“The biggest thing that could happen to me is we stay up and then we will see what happens after.”

He is, however, clearly a player worthy of playing in the Premier League, and if Fulham do go down, they will struggle to retain him. That being said, the Cottagers did help the 46-times-capped international to find confidence as a player.

During his spell with Newcastle, which came between 2015-2018, he scored only 14 goals from 65 league appearances – a total he is already close to eclipsing in half as many games at Fulham.
