Tottenham look to Serbian maestro to support Harry Kane

Share

Tottenham are likely to finally dip into the transfer window this summer, with a new striker their top priority. They are set to say goodbye to the infamous duo of Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente.

Janssen has been an absolute flop since arriving at the club from AZ Alkmaar during the summer of 2016. A lot was expected from the Dutchman after he developed a killer reputation in the Eredivisie. The 24-year-old was certainly given more than enough opportunities by Tottenham to impress. However, he went on to make a mere 27 Premier League appearances during the 2016/17 season and scored just two goals.

He was deemed surplus to requirements at the North London club during the summer of 2017 but ended up staying after sustaining a serious injury which kept him out for the entirety of the 2017/18 season and the vast majority of this season.

A Spaniard leaves Tottenham

Llorente has been somewhat more reliable and efficient than Janssen. The 34-year-old arrived at Spurs during the summer of 2017 after having impressed with Swansea City during the season prior. All in all, the Spaniard has gone on to play 64 games in all competitions, scoring 13 goals.

One man whom Mauricio Pochettino’s side must consider signing this summer is Aleksandar Mitrovic. The Serbian was one of the few bright sparks in an otherwise woeful Fulham side this season. The 24-year-old appeared 37 times in the Premier League games and scored 11 goals, recording three assists in the process. They have also been linked with his teammate, Ryan Sessegnon, of whom Spurs have been long term admirers.

He will likely be able to score more goals in a better environment and surrounded by more quality attackers. Spurs clearly need to bring in a striker this summer who can provide adequate cover and competition to Kane. As he is already proven in the Premier League, Mitrovic certainly fits the bill. He is still a young player and will get better with time. This is a player that Spurs must go all out to sign this summer.

Why not also look at Salomon Rondon also, physically big and strong, is perhaps a somewhat underrated forward who is good in the air good feet and display’s great hold up play. Personally I’m not sure about Mitrovic’s temprement , but from what I’ve seen Rondon gets his share of goals, leads the line well and is a solid and reliable team player.
