UFC legend and current Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey has indicated that she could end up leaving the WWE should she become unhappy with the company.
Rousey has significantly improved the standards of women’s wrestling in WWE since she emerged on the scene in the company in 2018. She has quickly established herself as arguably the best female pro-wrestler on the roster at the moment.
She is currently involved in a storyline which saw her relinquish the WWE Women’s Championship at the hands of Stephanie McMahon last week. Rousey gave up her title and was unhappy that Becky Lynch was not added to her match against Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 35.
Things could change and Lynch still has a chance to earn entry into the Wrestlemania bout with victory over Flair at Fastlane later this month. With many blockbuster bouts lined up for Wrestlemania 35 – such as Triple H versus a returning Batista – it may be that turning the Women’s Championship into a triple threat match is a smart idea to increase interest
In January, rumours began to circulate that Rousey would quit the WWE after WrestleMania in order to focus on starting a family. However, she quickly dismissed such rumours. However, she has now once again commented on her future.
“The thing is I love this job, I really love this job, but I don’t need it at all, not the least little bit,” she said on her YouTube vlog.
“So the second I’m not happy, I reserve the right to walk out the door and live happily ever after with the love of my life.
“And The Authority, so they are called in this company, they are just used to bullying everyone around.
“And like I said, they give them just enough for them to live a lavish lifestyle but still have to come back, right? I don’t.”
With professional wrestling not doing well in terms of viewership, it is perhaps now a case of Rousey not needing the WWE as much as they need her. The WWE must do all that they can to keep the former UFC star happy for the near future. Her departure could end up having a negative impact on the quality of women’s wrestling.
