City rivals set for war over Spanish superstar’s signature

Share

Manchester City and Manchester United look set to battle for the signature of Atletico Madrid star Rodrigo Hernandez this summer.

Widely known as Rodri, the 22-year old could be leaving the Spanish capital and be set for a dream move to the Premier League, where the two Manchester club’s look like the firm favourites.

City fan favourite Fernandinho is not improving in terms of his age and could be the one to ease in the midfielder within Pep Guardiola’s side. A tiki-taka style of play will undoubtedly suit Rodri’s philosophy with his vision and hard-working attitude on a football pitch which has been highly noted.

Rodri has been with Atletico since putting pen-to-paper at Wanda Metropolitano since May 2018 but looks set to leave the club within 12 months of joining. Beforehand, he spent his youth career with Madrid at the age of 11 before joining Villarreal in their B team. He rejoined his hometown for €20m but could leave for nearly four times the amount.

Rumoured to have a £70m release clause, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s side could actually be the favourites to sign Rodri as the Norwegian is said to be a huge supporter of the Spanish international. With Paul Pogba looking to be playing slightly more advanced, it could be a solid battle between Fred and Rodri to sign for that partnership spot.

Rodri currently has five caps for La Furia Roja after making his debut against Germany last year and is growing to become a fan favourite in Spain. His giant stature of 6ft 3 could also be a huge selling point for Europe’s elite with the likes of PSG, Bayern Munich and AC Milan all rumoured to trigger his release clause.
