Pundit makes big claim about Mason Mount

Share

Football pundit Liam Rosenior has claimed that Chelsea youngster Mason Mount would have been playing first-team football had he been on the books of Tottenham Hotspur. The 20-year-old Mount has had an impressive loan spell with Derby County this season, leading to speculation that he could be integrated into the Blues’ first-team plans ahead of next season.

Mount is currently one of 42 Chelsea players who are out on loan with other clubs. The Blues are known for being one of the harshest clubs in terms of their treatment of young talent and out of the more than 40 players out on loan, only a handful if even that will be integrated into the club’s first team.

Rosenior believes that Mount would have already been playing Premier League football if he were on the books of Tottenham. He may well be right. Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino evidently has a good reputation for the way in which he uses young talent.

“I see someone like Mason Mount and I think if he was at Tottenham, he would probably be playing or in the squad, like Oliver Skipp,” said Rosenior, as quoted by Football.London.

It would really be foolish if Chelsea were to let go of Mount in the near future but at the same time, it would not be surprising if they chose to do that. He is one of the most talented young English players and could potentially develop into a world-class talent under the correct guidance.

If Chelsea do not want to integrate him into their first-team plans next season and Derby do not win promotion to the top flight, they should aim to loan him out at least to a club playing top-flight football in one of Europe’s top five leagues. Due to his performances this season, Mount is likely to not be short of offers from premier clubs.
