Liverpool loanee open to remaining with Rangers

Share

Liverpool’s Ryan Kent has indicated that he is open to remaining with Rangers beyond this season. The 22-year-old has spent this season with the Scottish club, where he has impressed while making 24 appearances, scoring six goals and recording four assists.

Speaking about the possibility of possibly remaining with Rangers beyond this season, Kent said, as mentioned by STV: “It’s something that we’ve spoken about and it’s something we’re still speaking about. Yeah, it’s a possibility.

“I don’t really know where my future sees me yet. I came into this season saying this would be my last loan spell. Whether that’s the case I don’t know yet.”

This season has been a good one for Kent and he certainly would have become a better player due to it. Due to the world-class talent Jurgen Klopp has at his disposal, it is unlikely that Kent will be integrated into the Reds’ first-team next season and it also now looks like the club will aim to move him on – he may be well aware of this.

If the former English youth international wants to try and break into the England side in the near future, he should likely aim to move to one of Europe’s top five leagues in the near future. Even if he shines in Scotland, it will likely be considered to be not good enough by England manager Gareth Southgate as the standards of Scotland are not as respected as those elsewhere on the continent.

If Kent remains at Rangers, however, he could stand to benefit more in terms of his personal growth and he will also be motivated to be working under Steven Gerrard. As a product of the Liverpool youth development system, Gerrard is likely to be one of his idols.
