Gerrard confirms Rangers offer for Liverpool player

Share

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed that his club have made an offer for on-loan winger Ryan Kent after the youngster impressed on a season-long loan deal.

Kent was a mainstay for Gerrard’s troops in attack. Altogether, he made 27 Scottish Premiership appearances, scoring six goals and recording four assists.

Due to the world-class talent within the Liverpool first-team, it is almost definite that Kent will not be part of Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans for next season, in spite of his success in Scotland. Klopp has even allegedly already named a price to secure the winger’s services.

If Kent wants to harbour any hope of one day playing for Liverpool, he will need to negotiate with his parent club to be loaned out to a club in one of Europe’s top five Leagues next season.

Another option which he could take advantage of is to accept that he will need to leave Liverpool to take his career to the next level. He could join the Gers permanently this summer and use his experience playing under Gerrard to help him improve as a player.

At 22-years-old, Kent is still young but he will have to leave Scotland at some point if he hopes to one day be called up to the England side by Gareth Southgate.

Speaking during the post-match interview after Rangers 2-1 loss against Kilmarnock this weekend, Gerrard confirmed that his side has made an offer for Kent, saying: “We’re doing everything we can. We’ve spoken to Liverpool, we’re in touch with Ryan’s representatives and we’ve made an offer.

But there’s nothing to say on it or to confirm it. For our supporters, what I can do is guarantee that I’m doing everything I can to get him in for another season.”
