Liverpool manager Klopp makes admission about next season

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted that his side will need to be “close to perfection” if they want to topple Manchester City and win the league next season.

The Reds narrowly missed out on Premier League success this term, having finished second in the top flight to Manchester City by a single point.

The title race went down to the final day. Liverpool managed to defeat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 but the win was not enough as City went on to defeat Brighton and Hove Albion 4-1. Liverpool recorded 97 points from their 38 games this season. It is a record for the highest amount of points scored by a club that have failed to secure the title. They also just lost one game throughout the season.

Klopp’s side still have the Champions League final to play against Tottenham. They will be the favourites to win that clash and could end their trophy drought under the German in fine fashion. Liverpool can hold their heads high. They may have not won the league but did manage to put up a valiant fight.

“No, I’m not worried. That’s how it is,” said Klopp as reported by the Liverpool Echo. “That was the season we played. Next season we will play a different season, that’s clear already.

“We need to be very, very close to perfection to win the Premier League, as long as this is the case.

“We made unbelievably big steps and I really expect more to come, that’s the truth.

“What that means in the end, I don’t know. But if you see whatever happens to you in life as the only chance you ever had, then I feel a bit for you, to be honest.

“There’s a lot to come, a lot of years, it’s all about you and what you do with it, and that’s what we do with it.

“People will tell us it’s 30 years or whatever (since Liverpool won the league) but they have bigger problems, to be honest, those other clubs.”
