Daniel Sturridge’s six-year spell at Liverpool was filled with extreme highs and extreme lows and has now come to an end. The 29-year-old leaves Anfield having made a significant contribution to the club. He will be best remembered for his heroics during the 2013/14 season when he nearly helped the Reds win the Premier League.
He scored 22 goals during that season to finish as Liverpool’s top scorer. However recurring injury problems saw his career hampered and he hit a low last year by failing to win selection to England’s World Cup squad. The following are two men that Jurgen Klopp can consider signing this summer to provide cover and competition to Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi.
Best remembered for scoring the winning goal for Germany during the 2014 World Cup final, Gotze’s career has been underwhelming since. He however established himself as a world-class talent whilst playing under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund and will likely be keen on reuniting with the boss who made him into a star.
Gotze is capable of world-class performances and can play as a number nine. At 27-years-old, he is now at the peak of his career. Perhaps he just needs to work with Klopp again to get the best out of himself?
Gotze has stalled on signing a new contract with Dortmund which means that he may be available for a reasonable fee.
The 30-year-old who is a false nine by trade is a free-agent, having run down his contract with Werder Bremen. He managed an impressive 11 goals and 10 appearances in the Bundesliga last season and still has plenty of football left in him.
Kruse will be unlikely to be a first-team regular should he join the Reds but he would be a good squad rotation player and could add a lot of value to the team.
