Matt Le Tissier suggests Liverpool striker should leave

Football pundit Matt Le Tissier has suggested that Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge should leave the club for his own good at the end of this season.

The 29-year-old has struggled with injuries throughout recent years and has so far made just 16 appearances in the Premier League, scoring two goals. As things stand, there is no new deal in place for the former Manchester City and Chelsea striker.

Sturridge was handed a rare start in the Premier League when his side took on Huddersfield Town last Friday. He struggled to make an impact and did not find the back of the net.

It is unlikely that Liverpool will offer Sturridge a new contract. He is a shadow of the player that he was during the 2013/14 season, when he scored 21 League goals in 29 games to nearly guide the Reds to the Premier League title.

Sturridge should be aiming to leave Anfield at the end of the season and find a new club. He is approaching the latter stages of his career and should be aiming to play as regularly as possible.

With Gareth Southgate now favouring younger talent, it does not look likely that the striker will be able to work his way back into the England side and it also remains to be seen if he has the ability to do so considering the knocks that his body has taken over the years.

Le Tissier was asked on Sky Sports whether he thinks that people have seen the last of Sturridge. He replied saying: “Yeah, I do. I would be surprised if he was still there at the start of next season. For his own good really.

“Was that his second Premier League start of the season? I think for his own good, for his career, he has got to go and be somewhere where he is going to play games on a regular basis.”
