Mick Schumacher has claimed that he is not looking to emulate any current driver as he looks to progress to Formula One.
Instead, the 20-year-old admitted that his legendary father Michael is the benchmark for him rather than the current top competitors in the sport.
The youngster, who currently competes in Formula 2, is highly rated and is expected to graduate to F1 during the near future. The European Formula 3 champion has already tested a Formula One car after driving for Ferrari and Alfa Romeo in Bahrain in April.
Despite his young age, Schumacher has performed impressively in Formula 2 so far, as he has produced results of 6, 8, DNF and 5, which has netted him 15 Championship points. Schumacher has a bright future ahead of him. It remains to be seen whether he will prove to be as talented as his father, but he will definitely get an opportunity in Formula One in the near future.
Asked if he identified with anyone on the current F1 grid, Schumacher told Sky Sports: “I’m not really comparing myself to anyone now in F1, obviously it’s to my dad who I compare myself to.
“To see what we did, which steps he took and what he did different to others, and also see what positives I can take from that.
“But there are so many talented drivers in F1, otherwise they wouldn’t be there, and it’s always good to speak to each one of them and try to learn as much as possible.”
The seven-time world F1 champion Michael Schumacher suffered a traumatic brain injury in 2013, which has reportedly left him paralysed. Not much is known about the current condition of Schumacher, as his family has preferred to keep his health matters private. During his career, Schumacher never spoke about his private or personal life, nor did he allow the media access to it.
