Chelsea loanee to make shock return to the Bridge?

Share

Chelsea could have a shock move on the cards and see the return of former flop, Tiemoue Bakayoko, following a successful loan spell in Italy.

The £40m man spent this season with Serie A giants AC Milan in order to regain some of the impressive form we all saw during his time at Monaco. Former Blues boss Antonio Conte originally signed the 24-year-old after he helped the French side reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League in the 2016/17 campaign.

Milan fans are said to be delighted with the way Bakayoko has played during his time at the San Siro, where he helped them achieve fifth place under the leadership of Gennaro Gattuso. After finding it difficult to find his feet in Italy, the Frenchman quickly regained form towards the end of 2018 and managed to embed himself well within the midfield.

Bakayoko also managed to bag himself a goal during the 3-2 defeat against arch-rivals Inter Milan in March.

If Chelsea are to see Bakayoko at Stamford Bridge next season, they could have to fend off competition from Newcastle, where coach Rafa Benitez is rumoured to have a solid interest.

Chelsea could also have to hold off AC, who could potentially activate a £35m option to keep Bakayoko in Serie A. If Chelsea are to keep the midfielder, they must assure him of involvement in the first team after the Frenchman lost his position several times under Conte.

Under new boss, Maurizio Sarri, Bakayoko could be a vital asset for the Blues, who will most likely have to go the next two transfer windows unable to buy any players.
