Darren Bent ‘surprised’ by finisher’s prowess

Darren Bent has revealed that Lucas Moura is the one Tottenham player that has surprised him this season. The Brazilian has made 25 starts and several substitute appearances for Spurs this season, scoring ten goals.

The 26-year-old has also scored five goals for his side in the Champions League this season. Moura produced one of the greatest individual performances for Spurs last week as he scored a hat-trick to lead the club to a 3-2 victory against Ajax  at the Amsterdam Arena in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final.

Playing without Harry Kane and Song Heung-Min, the Lilywhites lost the first-leg of the semi-final 1-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium two weeks ago. They were the underdogs going into the second leg but managed to complete one of the greatest comebacks of this season to advance to the final of Europe’s premier club competition, where they will play against Liverpool later this month.

Appearing on TalkSport, Bent said of Moura: “I watched him before at PSG, and I knew obviously he is rapid, he is really really quick.

“But I always felt that he would get into an area where he could score and his finishing wasn’t as crisp as it could be, but this season he has really really surprised me with his finishing.”

Spurs now have a golden opportunity to end their trophy drought in fantastic fashion. They have not claimed a piece of major silverware since 2008 when they managed to win the League Cup. They will, however, face a difficult task against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, who are without a doubt one of the best teams in the world currently.

Moura will be full of confidence following his semi-final heroics against Ajax and if there is one player who can help Spurs to now break their trophy drought, it is him.
