Probably one of the most anticipated games to be discussed at the upcoming E3 2019, Marvel’s Avengers is coming on the heels of one of the biggest films of all time and couldn’t arrive sooner for fans eager for more.
Luckily for us, game details about the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers have leaked ahead of E3, which should give us more than enough time to speculate as to what exactly all of this means for the game. What have we heard exactly? In this article, we’ll tell you about the recent leak as well as our opinion as to what this means for the “final form” Marvel’s Avengers could take.
First off, the gameplay was confirmed to have both single-player and multiplayer modes with cooperative, four-player gameplay being a huge component of the game. It will also offer a world that is under persistent threat from Thanos, which implies that there will be a kind of open-ended narrative and possibly and always-online element.
Beyond that, players will be able to customise their heroes in terms of abilities, appearance and otherwise, though it wasn’t clear from the leaks whether or not this meant that you would be playing as one of the Avengers or creating your own character. There is a good argument either way, but a lot of people are hoping for the former over the latter.
Towards that end, the game will feature some heavy role-playing game elements, which is something we totally expected given that it is being developed by Square. As far as the narrative goes, it is pretty much certain to take place in the Thanos-threatened universe that has occupied the last two films and the developers are promising an “ever-expanding” world, which can only mean one thing: Tons of downloadable content.
Again, the hints that the game is structured almost like a massively multiplayer online RPG are too obvious to miss but it sounds more like a kind of hybrid middle ground between the two. The co-op gameplay discussed is limited to a team of four players, not a raid group of 15 to 30. Still, this mix of systems and Square’s penchant for developing top-notch RPGs has driven speculation about this game to insane levels.
More information will be clear on June 11 when the devs officially start to talk about the game and where it is going. No word yet on any kind of release timeframe for the title and there aren’t any coherent rumours to that end, either. Many people are expecting Marvel’s Avengers to come out in this console cycle but, given how close we are to the next generation, it could be a title for the new sets of hardware from Sony and Microsoft.
One thing going in favour of this generation is that the devs and Marvel themselves are probably eager to capitalise on the movie’s astounding success at the box office and will want to move game units as quickly as possible because of that.
