Who could help boost Tottenham’s attack for next season?

Share

With Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen due to leave Tottenham this summer, the club will need to sign a new striker who can provide competition and support to Harry Kane.

It would leave Kane as their only out and out striker, and with Spurs looking to finally end their trophy drought, they will need backup in the goal scoring department in order to compete on all fronts. Below are two possible talents that Mauricio Pochettino could look at in order to score the goals to boost them to the next level.

Callum Wilson

Wilson is currently one of the top English strikers and Gareth Southgate’s second-choice to lead the line for England behind Kane. Wilson has been reliable for Bournemouth during the past four years and is coming off a good season after having bagged 14 goals and recorded nine assists from 30 Premier League games.

Wilson is blessed with fast pace which would help to create space for Spurs attacking players. At 27-years-old, he is at the peak of his career and could find a move to Mauricio Pochettino’s club appealing as it would allow him the opportunity to experience Champions League football. However, it has recently been reported that West Ham are interested in his services, so Tottenham will need to act fast to bring him to north London.

Tammy Abraham

Abraham is one of the best up and coming players in English football and could develop into a world-class talent under the right guidance. He played a key role in helping Aston Villa to secure promotion back to the Premier League during the past season as he went on to score 23 goals from 41 games.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will be looking to include Abraham in their first-team plans for next season. Their pending transfer ban could see them utilise their long list of loanees if it the ban is upheld, which may block off any potential move for Abraham.

However, if not, they may opt to either sell him or loan him out for another season. At 21-years-old, Abraham fits the profile of a player that could shine under the guidance of Pochettino. He may have had a less than successful past stint in the Premier League with Swansea, but he is now a more composed and mature player. Moreover, he was playing for a Swansea team at the time which was devoid of confidence and ultimately relegated to the Championship.

Tottenham will be desperate to bolster their attacking forces for the upcoming season, however just who that will be remains to be seen. Yet, their Champions League run should ensure they have plenty of cash to splash on options.
