The heavyweight rematch between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury has been postponed, as confirmed by the WBC.

The WBC had been hoping to stage the rematch later this year and granted the two boxers several extensions to find an agreement.

Fans will now likely have to remain hopeful until at least until the end of the year if they are to see a re-match between the two giants of boxing.

The two fighters are set to appear in the ring against other opponents before they do eventually face off against each other. Wilder looks set to face off against mandatory challenger Dominic Breazeale while Fury will likely fight in the United States as he looks to grow his reputation in the region.

Fury recently signed a deal with Top Rank Boxing which will mean that he will fight on American Sports broadcast network ESPN. One of the reasons why the re-match with Wilder is in limbo is because the American has a good relationship with Showtime.

One of the fighters who has been linked with a potential match against Fury is Joseph Parker. Parker had previously been linked with a match against Dereck Chisora but it eventually fell through after Chisora failed to meet the deadline which was set by Parker’s team.  Others who are in the mix include Top Rank heavyweights Bryant Jennings, Kubrat Pulev and Oscar Rivas.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said as reported by Metro: “Deontay Wilder vs Tyson Fury is officially not happening next. The WBC Boxing has received communications as our process and while WBC Champion Wilder confirmed its willingness to fight the rematch, Fury will take on another fight with expectations to do rematch at a later date.”

The rematch between the two heavyweight kings surely will eventually take place at some point. Their pay expectations will have to be eventually met though so it may take some time.
